¡Bienvenidos! Welcome! Spanish is offered to all students in kindergarten through fifth grade at Montana Street Academic Magnet School.

Kindergarten through second grade classes focus on exposure to the language. Students learn vocabulary that is cross-curricular such as greetings, colors, numbers, body parts, classroom objects, family, animals, food, etc. Students are encouraged to use the language that they know. Speaking is the main goal for kindergarten through second grade. Culture is integrated into many lessons.

As students enter third grade the focus shifts to a stronger understanding of the language. Introduction to new vocabulary and culture is continued, along with some grammar.

A variety of materials and sources are used in the foreign language program. Various methods are used to teach the language. Some of these include songs, TPR (total physical response), the use of puppets, visuals, mini-dialogues, role-play, and games.
