CollegeCounts Smart Art Contest
Callahan McCarthy, a 4th Grader in Mrs. Smith’s
Class, won The for Montana Magnet and then
district wide for Dothan City Schools.
Mrs. Sowell taught a lesson on careers to all 4th grade
students to help them begin to think about college and careers. The lesson culminated in an artwork contest
sponsored by ALSDE and the Alabama Department of State Treasury. This contest was to bring awareness of
Alabama’s 529 college savings program and emphasize to families the importance
of saving early for college.
Callahan will be awarded a $100 CollegeCounts 529
direct-sold account and is in the running to win one of three grand prizes of
$529 in a CollegeCounts 529 account. All
system level winners will have their artwork displayed the month of January
2017 in the Supreme Court Library on the first floor of the Alabama State
Capitol in Montgomery. In addition, an awards and recognition ceremony for all
winners will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 2:00p.m. CT in the Capitol.
Emilee Quintero and Hannah Cooper were 2nd and 3rd
runner-up at Montana Magnet.
Congratulations to these students for such an accomplishment!
